Use the Compass IL New Freedom Transportation Program to go to the grocery store, the doctor’s office, a job interview, a school event, your veteran’s service office, even a social event.

How it works

Eligible riders must have a temporary or permanent disability, be a veteran, or be frail elderly, and have a transportation barrier.

Volunteer driver program

We provide New Freedom Transportation services (plus information and referrals for other transportation options) in the following areas:

Primary Counties Served:

Barron, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, St. Croix

Other Counties Served:

Adams, Ashland, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Crawford, Douglas, Florence, Forest, Grant, Iowa, Iron, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Lafayette, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Monroe, Oneida, Portage, Price, Richland, Sauk, Sawyer, Taylor, Trempealeau, Vernon, Vilas, Washburn, Wood.

Voucher program

Riders who have someone to drive them may qualify to receive vouchers that can be spent on a portion of their transportation costs.

  • Must have available drivers (relative, friend, neighbor) and a temporary need
  • If you are having financial difficulties due to recurring rides such as Chemo or dialysis we can help if you have your own drivers. This applies to other medical needs as well: picking up a prescription, etc.

Transportation

Become a volunteer driver

The New Freedom Transportation Program is always looking for more members to join our team of volunteer drivers. We are currently accepting applications for volunteers who are willing to provide transportation services using their own vehicles.

Control your own schedule. Drivers can sign up to volunteer for as many days as they would like. You’ll also receive orientation, training, and recognition.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Good driving record
  • Proof of liability insurance
  • A clean background check

  • For persons who use a wheelchair

Local mobility management

  • Work to coordinate and collaborate with local transportation programs
  • Serve on transportation coordinating committees
  • Transportation planning with transportation stakeholders

Regional transportation coordination

  • Coordinate meetings for West WI Regional Transportation Coordinating Committee (WWRTCC)
  • Coordinate regional driver training
  • Regional surveys for low-income, elderly, disabled, and veteran riders, Managed Care Organizations,
    Veteran Service Officers, and other transportation providers
